Villa Kishti: A Balinese-Inspired Private Retreat in Anguilla

A Seamless Interplay of Architecture, Interior Design, and Landscape Design

Villa Kishti, designed by Cecconi Simone, challenges traditional notions of shelter and nature, creating a harmonious blend of interior and exterior spaces. This 1450 m² private residence in Anguilla, British West Indies, offers a serene sanctuary where unity and solitude coexist.

Villa Kishti is a unique private retreat that embraces the surrounding landscape and seascape, creating an atmosphere of quiet contemplation for its occupants. The design blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, seamlessly integrating architecture, interior design, and landscape design.

The residence is composed of a central hub, a master suite, and three self-contained villas arranged in a fan-like plan. The central hub houses the principal gathering spaces, including the kitchen and living-dining area, which flow into each other in a unified palette of natural materials, tones, and textures. The living-dining area is thoughtfully furnished with custom pieces and carefully curated accessories, while the kitchen features custom millwork and Corian counters and backsplash.

The master suite, accessed internally from the living-dining area, offers a sleep area and lounge with an outdoor terrace. The ensuite bathroom is clad in travertine and features both indoor and outdoor showers. The suite is adorned with custom millwork, furnishings, and subtle Balinese accents.

Across from the master suite, each of the three self-contained villas encompasses a lounge area with an outdoor deck, a kitchenette, a powder room, and a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. These villas maintain the contemporary, Balinese-influenced expression found throughout the residence, with custom furnishings, millwork, finishes, and accessories.

The design of Villa Kishti presented several challenges, particularly due to its scope, which encompassed all aspects of interior and landscape design, as well as management, product sourcing, and logistics in an island setting. However, the client's exceptional contributions played a crucial role in reducing costs and shortening timelines.

Villa Kishti has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2013. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate technical and creative excellence, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology to enhance quality of life.

Villa Kishti is not just a private residence; it is a testament to the seamless integration of architecture, interior design, and landscape design. With its Balinese-inspired aesthetic and its ability to blend with its natural surroundings, this retreat offers a unique and tranquil experience for its inhabitants.
